# Foxstep

> Foxstep is a Mac app that turns a task you do once into a step-by-step guide with screenshots, for people and AI agents to follow. It is privacy-first: recordings, guides and the privacy check stay on your Mac, and cloud AI is off unless you turn it on.

## Product

- Runs on Macs with Apple silicon and macOS 14 or later, with a free Foxstep account.
- Record a task in any Mac app and Foxstep writes the steps with screenshots. Edit the guide, then export PDF or self-contained HTML. Anyone can read an export without the app or an account.
- Privacy: a check on your Mac reads every screenshot and finds emails, phone numbers, ID numbers, faces and your own "always hide" words. You choose what is hidden. Optional extra checks download a privacy model that also runs on your Mac.
- AI: on Macs with Apple Intelligence and macOS 26 or later, writing suggestions run on your Mac. Optional cloud AI uses prepaid credits and Google's AI in the EU, with anything the privacy check flags left out.
- AI assistants: any assistant on your Mac that accepts a local MCP server, such as Claude, ChatGPT's Mac app, Codex, Cursor or Gemini CLI, can read your reviewed guides and their step plans through Foxstep's MCP connection, follow them, and ask Foxstep to hide private details. Foxstep itself never clicks or types.
